ABOUT
Who are we?
Founded in 2006
1st Cathays Al Huda is a Scouts Group that is based in Cardiff, supporting young people to develop physically, mentally and spiritually to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Scouting is the largest youth organisation in the world, with over 30 million members worldwide. The scouting programme is delivered by unpaid adult volunteers, who undergo regular training in order to keep their skills up-to-date. Our aim is to give young people skills that will be useful to them for the rest of their lives.

ABOUT
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register?
Scouting has become increasingly popular over the last few years. This has resulted in the introduction of a waiting list, to ensure all children are given a fair opportunity to join.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee when your child will be enrolled, but we will make contact as soon as a space is available – there is no need to contact us after your child has been added to the waiting list.
How much does it cost?
Scouting is an affordable way of providing a range of exciting and adventurous activities for your child.
The Membership Fee is £70.00⚹. You can pay this upfront or monthly over for 5 months. £48 of the £70, is paid to the Scout Association for membership and insurance. The remaining covers the cost of sessions.
Please note: Trips, camps and activities are not covered by the Membership Fee.
Our Leaders, assistants and Executive Committee are not paid for their time.
Additionally,
Young people wear a uniform that includes a sweatshirt or shirt depending on the age range. They will also wear our group’s custom scarf/neckerchief (optionally held together with a woggle). Young people are not required to wear uniform from the beginning, but the Section Leader will agree upon a time when it is suitable to purchase a uniform.
Our neckerchief can only be purchased from our group, at the cost price of £7.50 (+£1.00 per woggle) – please speak to your section leader. You can buy your sweatshirt/shirt from YC Sports on Crwys Road or from Amazon – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts (Boys) | Scouts (Girls)⚹.
You can find diagrams of the positions of badges for each section via the following links:

How do we choose our leaders?
All volunteers who help to run our activities give their time freely to help young people enjoy Scouting.
Leaders are interviewed locally and asked to provide references. Everyone working with young people in Scouting is asked to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, previously referred to as a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check.
If you’d like to become a leader, please contact us!We’re always looking for more enthusiastic leaders.
We have a clear code of behaviour which is given to all adults working in Scouting, regardless of their role. This is also included in the training that leaders receive, and offers advice about how young people should be treated. We have also developed a set of group policies to ensure Islamic principles are upheld.
If you would like to see a copy of the code of behaviour for adults, you can either email us, or speak to your section leader.
We expect all leaders to take courses in basic first aid and child protection. Special training is provided for those taking young people away on residential events like camps and sleepovers.
Throughout their time in 1st Cathays, our leaders undertake 18 training modules – ranging from running safe activities, to skills of leadership. To commemorate the training leaders take part in, they are presented with Wood Beads (a necklace).
How is our Scouts group funded?
The Executive Committee are dedicated to ensuring the group maintains self-sufficiency.
To achieve this objective, we have implemented the following:
- The annual membership fee will be at the start of the year, or in monthly installments.
- The group can now reclaim Gift Aid, as it has been recognised as a charity by HMRC
- Camps and trips will no longer be subsidised, and the total cost will be met by all attendees.
- We don’t want young people missing out through financial hardship. If any issues arise, please contact us as we may be able to offer some assistance.
